Big Girl

Does she smash her cake?
Oh, yes she does!

The banana cake with a simple purple cream cheese frosting was a HIT!
For the rest of us, I made a pink lemonade cake. Four layers of pink lemon cake in 2 shades of pink, frosted in a no-cook 7 minute frosting with coconut. Bennett's face says it all...

Happy birthday, baby girl!

Farmer's Wife Friday

So, I've been Farming again. Yay! It feels so good to get back to work on these little blocks.  And to use up scraps!!!  Here are a couple to show this week:

I used some of those great pezzy prints for the colors in the Rainbow Flower block and a fabulous tiny scrap of a Japanese print.  You can't tell in the scanned photo, but the mushrooms and rainbow are covered in GLITTER!

The Puss in the Corner block used some scrap grey dots, some wacky brown that I think goes well with the textured kitty cats. I picked a tan one, though the other cats are dark brown and grey polka dots.

On another note, today is Norah's first birthday!  We are just doing a small little something tomorrow here at the house. Happy birthday baby girl!

Vertical Cucumber Frames

We are going to try growing our cukes up this year. I built some cheap frames from 1" PVC and some concrete wire mesh.

The mesh is just zip-tied to the frame. Next step: planting the last of the garden!

Summer Flies

Finished knit! Summer Flies shawl (pattern from Ravelry) using some stash mohair yarn. It came together pretty quick, though the yarn wasn't as soft as I'd hoped. I think I'll make another using a different yarn. Maybe it's the mohair?
