The boys on a Saturday morning

It was relatively quiet this morning, just me and Norah hanging out while the boys each worked on projects of their own.
Brian cracked open his old cell phone just to see what the insides looked like. Nothing like micro screwdrivers next to your coffee, eh?

Bennett was at his own work station, assembling lego "machines."

Assembling and disassembling, the circle of life at the K household. Happy weekend!

Baby Swoon

I love all these Swoon blocks and quilts popping up everywhere. I have two Swoon quilts in the works, though progress is veeeery slooow. It is near impossible to string an hour of time together to lay out fabric and stay organized enough to get them sewn before I'm distracted by our hectic household.

So, when Christina from our Cincinnati Modern Quilt Guild offered up a lone block at one of the meetings last fall, I snapped it up. It is now ready to quilt up into a baby quilt, backed in some Denyse Schmidt. Quick and satisfying!

Salad People

Best cooky lunch ever! Ingredients: pickle legs, pear body, pea buttons, cheese arms (blueberry hands were already eaten by the time I got the camera out), cucumber face, raisin eyes, cottage cheese hair, carrot ears, tomato smile.

Five Years

It's been five years since Burke was born. Five years of this little space in our family, a pause. Our lives right now are a whirlwind, spinning us from day to day without much time for the details (let alone blogging opportunities). It's all we can do to get showered, keep everyone in clean clothes and make it to our destinations on time. This morning as I was rounding up the kids, distracted by this aching pause, Bennett asked me why I was sad. I told him I missed his big brother and we took a couple minutes to talk about Burke.

At the end of our small chat, he told me: "Well, don't be sad, mom. We will all love Burke, even when we are big. 'Cause he is part of our family."

And so he is. And so we will.
